Rep. Barletta's reaction to Supreme Court decision

U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Hazleton, chairman of the 112th Class Immigration Caucus and the former mayor of Hazleton, where he instituted the Illegal Immigration Relief Act, the first local ordinance cracking down on illegal immigration in the nation, released the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court opinion in the case of Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration law, SB 1070:

“By upholding the central part of SB 1070 – which was also the most controversial part of the Arizona law – thousands of properly trained law enforcement officers in Arizona can help the federal government enforce immigration law. Increased enforcement will be an additional deterrent and make it much more difficult for illegal aliens to hide in Arizona, take jobs away from American citizens and legal immigrants, and obtain benefits through the use of fraudulent documents.
